    Kansas Football Recruiting Class Overview

It’s a hard, hard sell considering Kansas had one of the worst seasons by anyone in college football, but couldn’t head man David Beaty sell the idea of instant playing time? That worked last year with a huge class, but this year’s haul is missing any sure-thing Big 12 performers – at least at a high level.

The Class Is Heavy On …

Offensive playmakers. The Jayhawks desperately need firepower, and they might have found a few options to see who might pop through with WR Evan Fairs a big target among a pack of pass catchers, and Bryce Torneden a local product for the running game. If New Orleans native Tyriek Starks becomes a factor at quarterback at any point, this class will have worked out well.

The Star of the Class Is …

LB Maciah Long, 6-2, 220 – Center Hunter Harris might someday be the anchor of the line if he can add about 50 pounds, and corners Kyle Mayberry and Ian Peterson have to eventually be key parts of the secondary, but it’s Long who has the biggest upside once he learns how to play defense. The former quarterback can move, and he’s a pass rusher, but he still needs refinement. Ohio State and UCLA wanted him, but he needs to bulk up and be a difference-maker for the D as soon as possible.

The Team’s Biggest 2016 Depth Chart Hole Is …

The defensive line. More than anything else, Kansas needs Big 12 players and difference makers. At the very least, it’ll be full of experience on both sides of the ball with lots of young options ready to come up with some good position battles. However, the D line loses Corey King off the nose and Ben Goodman at end. They’re hardly killer losses, but it’s the one area that could use some veterans.
