The No. 19 Houston Cougars will welcome the No. 22 Temple Owls to TDECU Stadium on Saturday for the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship Game.

The Cougars (11-1, 7-1 AAC) will represent the AAC West division in the title game and will look to claim its first conference championship since 2006 (C-USA). Houston made up for a shocking loss to UConn a couple of weeks ago by knocking off Navy, 52-31, last week. The Cougars broke a 14-14 tie when Greg Ward Jr. found the end zone on a five-yard run and never relinquished the lead the rest of the game. Ward Jr. returned from an ankle injury and dominated, throwing three touchdowns passes and running for two more while amassing 391 total yards. DeMarcus Ayers (8 rec, 161 yards) also had a big contribution for the Cougars. In addition to hauling in a touchdown, he threw one as well, connecting with Linell Bonner on a 29-yard strike. The win gave Houston it’s fourth 11-win season in program history.

The Owls (10-2, 7-1 AAC) are the representatives of the AAC East division and are coming off a win against the only team to beat Houston this year, UConn. Temple scored 27 unanswered points in the game and almost had the shutout until the Huskies kicked a field goal late in the fourth. Jahad Thomas led the way offensively for the Owls with 119 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns, earning the first 1,000-yard season of his career. Thomas’ success took a lot of the load off P.J. Walker, who finished with just 160 yards on 19 of 29 pass attempts and a touchdown. Temple’s defense continued to be a force, holding UConn to just nine yards rushing, 138 total and had two takeaways on the day.

Houston and Temple will get together for the fifth time on Saturday. The Cougars took last year’s matchup, 31-10, and have won all four previous meetings.

Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the AAC Championship Game online live stream, TV broadcast information, game notes and prediction.

    Prediction

Herman is set to validate Houston’s decision earlier in the week to prevent bigger schools from poaching the coach.

The Cougars are committed to keeping Herman on board beyond this season, one less distraction for the players on Saturday. Houston made a profound statement a week ago against Navy, fueled by having Ward back in the huddle. And while points will be harder to come by this weekend, the Cougs will be the superior team on offense. Ward will continue his multi-dimensional wizardry, while the defense flies all over the field to frustrate the one-note Temple attack.
