Despite the 2016 college football season ending just last night, it is never too early to look forward to a new slate of games next fall as teams jockey for positioning in the race for a College Football Playoff berth.

Clemson claimed its first national championship since 1981 on Monday night in Tampa, coming back from a double-digit deficit to beat Alabama, 35-31, and prevent the Crimson Tide from winning their fifth national title in eight seasons. Despite the victory, Dabo Swinney’s squad is not the favorite to come out of the ACC and compete for a repeat national title next season.

Florida State has been given the best odds to raise the trophy when the CFP title game is staged in Atlanta, GA, as Jimbo Fisher’s Seminoles are initially at 8/1 heading into the 2017 campaign. Behind the ‘Noles sits Louisville, as Bobby Petrino’s team is listed at 14/1.

Meanwhile, Clemson has the league’s third-best odds, as the Tigers check in at 20/1. Of course, they will lose two-time Heisman Trophy finalist Deshaun Watson, and there’s a chance that offensive stars such as Mike Williams, Artavis Scott and Wayne Gallman will be gone, and the defense will lose veterans such as linebacker Ben Boulware and cornerback Cordrea Tankersley. There won’t be a ton of drop-off, but the Tigers may not be the team to beat in the ACC.
