Deionte Thompson could be in some trouble, and his father isn’t happy how the situation is being handled.
Authorities in Texas have issued an arrest warrant for felony assault for the Alabama defensive back in connection with the alleged beating of an 18-year-old man March 18 in Crystal Beach, according to a report. Warrants also have been issued for three others who allegedly were involved in the beating of Noah Frillou over spring break.
Thompson’s father, Vester, posted his thoughts on Twitter regarding the report and the warrant issued against his son, urging others not to rush to judgement over the matter.
“I understand journalists have a job to do,” Vester Thompson tweeted. “Just wait until you hear the truth. Trust me, the key word in this case is ALABAMA.”
Vester Thompson could be insinuating that his son is receiving unfair treatment because of the fact his son plays for one of college football’s most prominent programs. Whether or not that’s the case remains to be seen.
The younger Thompson played a limited role for the Crimson Tide last season but likely has a prime opportunity to earn more time on the field should this trouble be unfounded. Thompson was regarded as one of the nation’s top safeties coming out of high school in 2015, redshirted his first year at Alabama and then recorded nine tackles while playing mostly special teams last season.
Alabama has yet to comment on Thompson’s situation.
