Why You Need To Care

No. 8 in the FCS poll, Charleston Southern took the Big South title with the win over Liberty last week, and it has the first round of the playoffs next week, but first, it can come up with a truly special win if … okay, that’s not going to happen. However, the Bucs have a fantastic defense, a good running game, and they should be more than just a light scrimmage for the best team in college football.

Fine, so, technically, Alabama is the No. 2 team in college football, but it’s absolutely blasting away on everything in its path at the highest of levels. It crushed LSU, then it slammed Mississippi State, and next week it has the one final step against Auburn before getting to the SEC championship game with a win. Can the team stay focused for yet another week? Any sort of a mediocre performance will be spun in 100 different directions, but the goal is to just get through this and get on to the business of the Iron Bowl.

Why Charleston Southern Will Win

The defense is the real deal. The Buccaneers only allow an FCS-low 253 yards per game starting with a terrific run defense that’s not giving up a thing. The pass rush is okay, but the Bucs are simply stout at the point of attack. It hasn’t faced an offensive line anywhere near the same stratosphere as Alabama’s, but it’ll come up with its share of wins.

Why Alabama Will Win

The CSU offense that’s been able to come up with the big ground game when needed, and the 200-yard passing days when it has to, is about to be welcomed to the Alabama defense that’s destroying everyone. Tennessee came up with 132 yards, and Georgia came up with 193. That’s it for the 100-yard rushing games allowed, destroying the Mississippi State ground attack last week and stuffing Leonard Fournette and LSU a few weeks ago. This team wants to get this over with an move on to Auburn – it’s not going to mess around.

Player Who Matters

If this goes like it’s supposed to, Derrick Henry’s day will be done early so he can rest up for the Iron Bowl, but Kenyan Drake is gone for now with a broken arm. So now it’s about what Damien Harris and Bo Scarbrough can do as the key backups in the rotation. Scarbrough is a 6-2, 240-pound blaster with a world of upside, while Harris is yet another superstar Alabama running back recruit who’ll be the main man in the near future. The more they get to play this week, the better.

What’s Going To Happen?

It’s Alabama in the FCS tune-up game – it’ll go through the motions, and it’ll come up with the easy win at 38% intensity. To put this game into perspective, Troy beat Charleston Southern 44-16.
