The Pelicans needed a boost after a six-game losing streak. Anthony Davis provided it.

After shooting 36 percent from the floor in back-to-back losses, Davis exploded for 32 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists as the Pelicans downed the Bulls 107-98 to snap a six-game losing streak.

Davis re-discovered his form against Chicago. He started 1-5, but hit his next eight shots en route to a 13-24 shooting performance overall. On the defensive end, Davis recorded four blocks and routinely challenged shots at the rim. There were no lingering signs of his elbow injury.

The Pelicans were able to get back in the column despite Nikola Mirotic’s struggles. The forward has been red hot to start the season, averaging 21.8 points per game on 50 percent shooting entering Wednesday’s game. Mirotic scored five points early in the game, but finished with just nine points on 4-14 shooting.

New Orleans has been one of the most explosive offenses in the early part of the season, averaging 118.6 points entering Wednesday’s contest. The Pelicans have relied on the Davis-Mirotic combination to carry them through games. The duo had a team-best 19.3 net rating entering Wednesday’s game among New Orleans’ two-man lineups that played at least 48 minutes together. They also had the best defensive rating among such lineups.

As Davis continues to get healthier, the Pelicans should be able to get back to their winning ways. New Orleans was 4-0 to begin the season, but Davis missed three games during the team’s skid. The Pelicans do have to be cautious about Davis’ health going forward. He’s never played a full season in his six years in the league and New Orleans needs him to get back to the playoffs in a crowded Western conference. Mirotic and Jrue Holiday will need to improve to take pressure off Davis going forward. They combined to go 10-30 from the floor Wednesday.

New Orleans needed to get back to its winning ways. Its superstar big man responded Wednesday night.
