Auburn vs. Alabama A&M Game Preview

When: Saturday, November 19 – 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL
TV Broadcast: SEC Network

Auburn’s SEC title and playoff hopes are over after being defeated 13-7 by Georgia this past Saturday. Quarterback Sean White could not get the passing game going while playing with a hurt shoulder, and the Tigers running game badly missed the injured Kam Pettway. The defense did its part, holding Georgia to two field goals (the lone Bulldogs touchdown was on a pick-six).

The Hornets of Alabama A&M will come to Jordan-Hare Stadium with an upset in mind after a victory over Jackson State this past Saturday. Quarterback De’Angelo Ballard is a dual-threat that can beat you in the air and on the ground.

What To Know About Auburn

Be surprised if you see White anywhere near the field this Saturday, as Auburn tries to get him healthy for the Iron Bowl next week. That means that John Franklin III will most likely be under center. Franklin is not a passing threat at all, so Auburn will lean on the running game, minus Pettway again, to put points on the board.

The Tigers defense will simply have to keep on doing what it has all season: shutting down offenses early in a drive and tilting the field in Auburn’s favor. The combination of defensive ends Carl Lawson and Marlon Davidson is deadly.

What to Know About Alabama A&M

When Ballard isn’t doing his thing, running back Jordan Bentley is moving the chains with his running. Bentley has rushed for 848 yards and nine touchdowns so far this season, including a 106-yard effort in the win against Jackson State.

The Bulldogs defense will know that Auburn’s plan is to run the ball and then run it some more. Not getting worn down by the constant up-tempo attack and getting off the field will be important to stay in the game.

Advantages

Offense: Auburn. No White and Pettway, but the Tigers are talented and deep enough to move the ball.

Defense: Auburn. This unit flies around like Tigers’ defenses from the 1990s.

Special Teams: Auburn. Get him within 55 yards or so, and Daniel Carlson is money.

Coaching: Auburn. More adversity for Gus Malzahn to handle with the key injuries on offense.

Intangibles: Auburn. Win and get healthy for the big matchup against Alabama.

Auburn vs. Alabama A&M Prediction

Ruben Studdard, the winner of Season 2 of American Idol, is a graduate of Alabama A&M. I feel like our readers should know that fact. As for the game, Auburn will dominate on defense, struggle with no passing game on offense, and still score enough points to put this away early. Auburn wins handily.
