Austin Grandstaff sure seems to be racking up those frequent flyer miles.

The former 4-star recruit is reportedly transferring from Oklahoma to DePaul after never having played a game in a Sooners uniform.

Grandstaff began his collegiate career playing for Ohio State, in which he averaged 4.4 points and 11.5 minutes per game as a freshman. He chose to depart from the Buckeyes after his first year in Columbus, and headed for Norman in the offseason. However, Grandstaff announced in mid-May that he would once again be on the move in search of a new home.

The Blue Demons are now the beneficiary of Grandstaff’s announcement, and it couldn’t be coming at a better time for the program. DePaul finished with a 9-22 record in 2015 and came in second-to-last place in the Big East.

While Grandstaff will have to sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules, he will fill a huge void for the Blue Demons in 2017-18. Billy Garrett Jr. (12.6 PPG) and Tommy Hamilton IV (8.6 PPG) are entering their senior seasons with DePaul in 2016 and will be sorely missed after their graduation.

Grandstaff will help remove a lot of the sour taste left from their departures. With those two out of the picture, Grandstaff is likely to start immediately for the Blue Demons once he becomes eligible.

His addition puts DePaul over the 13-player scholarship limit for 2016-17, meaning that someone on their current roster will have to transfer or re-classify as a walk-on.

Though his numbers from Ohio State weren’t great, Grandstaff was a big-time recruit and is the now the second former 4-star prospect to join DePaul’s roster next to Garrett Jr. Though the two guards won’t hit the court together, they’re both significant additions for a program trying to revive college basketball in the city of Chicago.
