Projecting Where 5-Star OT Austin Jackson Will Commit

Five-star offensive tackle Austin Jackson commitment is looming as National Signing Day approaches. The Campus Insiders staff gave its predictions on where the nation’s No. 5 offensive tackle will end up.

While National Signing Day is only days away, plenty of recruitments have already been wrapped up.

Sure, 5-star prospect Austin Jackson isn’t technically committed, but the belief is that he already knows where he’s going to sign when it’s time to put that ink on his National Letter of Intent.

USC is the heavy favorite to land the nation’s No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 30 overall player. The Trojans are hoping to land both Jackson and 5-star wide receiver Joseph Lewis on National Signing Day in order to finish the cycle on a high note.

The Campus Insiders staff got together and offered predictions for where the 5-star offensive tackle will send his National Letter of Intent.

This screams USC all the way. I’ve been — as well as anyone else who covers Pac-12 recruiting has — hyping up the finish for Clay Helton’s Trojans. They’re leading for Jackson, and I highly doubt anyone has made up enough ground to sneak past USC for his commitment. Helton will add him as a cornerstone of the class, and the “USC is back” tweets will start to clutter your timeline once again. He’s headed to Los Angeles.

Jackson is going to be quacking like a Duck when signing day arrives. Willie Taggart, despite the off-the-field issues going on with the workouts and assistant being fired for the DUI, is going to make Oregon great again. It starts with Jackson. The Ducks will swoop in during the 11th hour and nab him right from under USC’s nose.

Clay Helton is going to have one of the better teams in the country next season, and Jackson will be a part of it. Putting Jackson in front of Sam Darnold will only help matters for an offense that exploded under the quarterback when he was named the starter. It would be an upset if Jackson chose anywhere but USC to play next season.

This has all the makings of a USC signing. The Trojans, while still one of the nation’s top programs, are on the comeback trail and appear set to field one of college football’s top teams for the 2017 season. They will head into the season with no questions at the quarterback spot, finally, and that should only help them sign someone like Austin Jackson to protect Sam Darnold. We can’t rule out other schools like Arizona State and even Oregon, but the odds of him signing with one of them over USC don’t look too hot.

Oddly enough, I feel like Jackson will pick Arizona State. The Sun Devils pulled a minor shocker by landing running back Eno Benjamin, who looked all but gift wrapped for Texas. Pair him with a nice tackle in Jackson, and don’t look now but Todd Graham has himself a solid looking class.
