Last week’s loss to Kansas all but sealed the fate of Charlie Strong at Texas, as it is expected that the Longhorn head coach will be fired after the team’s final regular season game this Friday. Win or lose, Strong would finish career with the worst win percentage of any coach and Texas history, having already compiled a 16-20 record. That doesn’t mean the Longhorns don’t have anything to play for against TCU, however. Texas needs a win over the Horned Frogs to gain bowl eligibility, and running back D’Onta Foreman needs 262 yards to break Ricky Williams’ single-season program rushing record.

The Horned Frogs would also gain bowl eligbility with a win over the Longhorns, and continue Gary Patterson’s success against Texas since joining the Big 12. Since Strong took over in Austin, Patterson and Co. have outscored their in-state rivals 98-17 over two meetings. Overall the Horned Frogs are 3-1 against the Longhorns, including 2-0 in Austin, since they joined the conference in 2012. However, you have to go back to 1938 to find the last time TCU had longer than a two-game winning streak against Texas. Coincidentally, that year was also the last time the Longhorns had lost to Kansas before this past Saturday.

With Bedlam not until Week 14, the rest of the Week 13 slate lacks the stakes found even in the Texas/TCU matchup. Kansas will look to buuld on its win over the Longhorns when they travel to face in-state rival Kansas State. The Jayhawks haven’t won two straight against FBS teams since 2009, and that streak will probably continue given their 4-16 record against the Wildcats since the innagural Big 12 season in 1996.
