Big 12 football rankings heading into Week 11 of the 2016 season. Oklahoma escaped Iowa State, but Baylor suffers a surprising defeat for the second straight week.

Suddenly, Baylor is just trying to stop the bleeding. Back-to-back losses have dropped it from the top of the Big 12 standings, and it didn’t even show up in a 40-point loss to TCU this week.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, got out of Ames with a 10-point victory on Thursday night and watched the Bears crumble again. Rival Oklahoma State is setting up a showdown with the Sooners in the season finale and picked up its fifth straight win.

Now that the games have been played, here’s a look at how the Big 12 teams rank heading into Week 11 of the season.

10. Kansas (Last Week – 10)

The Jayhawks have lost their last four games by at least 24 points. There’s not much else to say about one of the worst teams in the country that has lost eight in a row.

9. Iowa State (9)

Matt Campbell knew he was undertaking quite a rebuilding project when he arrived in Ames, and the Cyclones are just 1-8 in his first season. However, they’ve shown some steady improvement the last two weeks, losing by just five to Kansas State before Thursday’s 34-24 loss to Oklahoma. They also lost by a combined 10 points to Baylor and Oklahoma State in back-to-back weeks to start October. There’s a ways to go for Iowa State to become a legit Big 12 title contender, but Campbell seems to at least have the program heading in the right direction.

8. Texas Tech (8)

Most figured the matchup with Texas would be a shootout, and it didn’t disappoint. But the Red Raiders came up short by allowing 658 yards – including a whopping 414 on the ground – against the Longhorns and couldn’t keep up in a 45-37 loss. They’ve lost four of their last five and play two of their final three against Oklahoma State and Baylor.

7. Texas (7)

Well hello, D’Onta Foreman. Last week’s 250-yard effort against Baylor was impressive. But 341 yards and three touchdowns against Texas Tech? Wow. Foreman has rushed for at least 124 yards in each of the eight games he’s played for the 5-4 Longhorns after running for the third-most yards in a game in school history. He’s one of the country’s leading rushers and will look for another big performance next week against West Virginia.

6. Kansas State (5)

The Wildcats held a nine-point lead on Oklahoma State in the fourth quarter and seemed primed to earn the upset and a third straight victory. Then they were held scoreless for the final 12-plus minutes and gave it away, including being intercepted in the end zone that ended it. Allowing 637 yards of total offense didn’t help. Kansas State has to beat either Baylor, Kansas or TCU in order to become eligible for a bowl game.

5. TCU (6)

Where heck did that come from?! The Horned Frogs lost 34-10 to West Virginia two weeks ago and 27-24 to Texas Tech last week. Somehow, they exploded for a 62-22 thrashing of Baylor on Saturday in a dominating victory that just doesn’t seem to make sense. TCU’s 688 yards of total offense were a season high, and Kyle Hicks’ five rushing touchdowns were only two fewer than he had in the previous eight games combined. Let’s see if it’s that easy next week against Oklahoma State.

4. Baylor (2)

Baylor has gone from being the Big 12’s best chance to reach the College Football Playoff to a team in disarray. After last week’s loss to Texas, the Bears looked listless in a loss to TCU in a game that was supposed to be emotional as they protested the firing of former coach Art Briles. Instead of what should’ve been a showdown next week with Oklahoma, it appears Baylor simply is looking to be spoilers as the Sooners capitalize on the Bears’ fall.

3. West Virginia (4)

The Mountaineers suffered their first loss last week when they fell to Oklahoma State. They took their frustrations out on Kansas with Saturday’s 48-21 victory. There aren’t anymore layups moving forward, though. West Virginia plays at Texas next week before hosting Oklahoma. It then travels to face an Iowa State team that is playing better before hosting Baylor to close out the regular season.

2. Oklahoma State (3)

Make it five straight wins for the Cowboys after their comeback victory at Kansas State. Oklahoma State should be 7-1 if it weren’t for that loss to controversial loss to Central Michigan early in the season and in discussion to reach the Playoff. However, wins over Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma should have the Cowboys playing in a major bowl game.

1. Oklahoma (1)

Make it six straight wins for the Sooners, who could be right in the think of the College Football Playoff discussion had they not faltered against a now-struggling Houston team to open the season. Nevertheless, Oklahoma has gotten itself back to the top of the Big 12 standings and can bolster its chances for a major bowl game should it get past Baylor and West Virginia the next two weeks.
