Big 12 Football Rankings – Week 13

Big 12 rankings heading into Week 13 of the 2016 season. Oklahoma solidifies its place atop the conference by routing West Virginia.

Oklahoma likely needs some help to reach the College Football Playoff, but there’s little doubt that it is the top team in the Big 12. The Sooners crushed West Virginia, 56-28, in Morgantown on Saturday night after Oklahoma State defeated TCU, setting up a huge matchup in the Bedlam Series next week.

The biggest news out of the conference this weekend, though, came following Texas’ shocking overtime loss to Kansas. How much longer will Charlie Strong have a job?

Now that the games have been played, here’s a look at how the Big 12 teams rank heading into Week 13 of the season.

Week 13 Big 12 Football Rankings

10. Kansas (Last Week – 10)

Rock. Chalk. Jayhawk. Kansas ended a 23-game losing streak against FBS opponents by stunning Texas, 24-21, in overtime. Its only other victory this season came in the season opener against FCS foe Rhode Island.

9. Texas Tech (8)

That 3-1 start is long gone, and Kliff Kingsbury might be looking for work after the season. The Red Raiders have lost six of their last seven after being crushed by Iowa State.

8. Iowa State (9)

What got into those Cyclones? They scored 42 points in the first half against Texas Tech and cruised to a second straight victory.

7. Texas (7)

The loss to a really, really bad Kansas team might be the final nail in Charlie Strong’s tenure as Texas coach. Rumors began swirling that boosters were pushing Texas to fire Strong and hire Houston’s Tom Herman before the loss to the Jayhawks.

6. Baylor (4)

Remember when Baylor was 6-0 and the Big 12’s best chance to reach the College Football Playoff? It has lost four in a row since then, including this week’s 42-21 defeat at the hands of Kansas State.

5. TCU (5)

The Horned Frogs have lost three of four after losing to Oklahoma State, 31-6. Now they have to beat either Texas or Kansas State just to become bowl-eligible.

4. Kansas State (6)

The Wildcats have won three of four to become bowl-eligible following a 3-3 start. They have two more games regular-season game left, though, against Kansas and TCU.

3. West Virginia (3)

That’s not what the Mountaineers had in mind for such a big game. They were dominated from start to finish against Oklahoma and couldn’t get anything going on either side of the ball. They finish up with games against Iowa State and Baylor.

2. Oklahoma State (2)

Without a conference championship game, Oklahoma State has basically no shot to reach the College Football Playoff. But, would that still be the case if not for the controversial loss to Central Michigan that actually should be a W?

1. Oklahoma (1)

A two-loss team in the College Football Playoff seems unlikely, but a win over Oklahoma State next week and some chaos in the conference title games could land the Sooners among the top four in the final CFP rankings.
