Leave it to Charlie Strong and the Longhorns to pull out an upset win over a top-10 team. Texas topped then-No. 8 Baylor, 35-34, and the Bears subsequently fell to No. 13 in the AP Top 25 rankings. Baylor now sits in third place, while the Longhorns are in eighth. Shane Buechele, the true freshman, really came through for Texas. He completed 12-of-21 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns.
In another upset, West Virginia fell to Oklahoma State, 37-20. Now, the Cowboys are in second place behind Oklahoma, and the Mountaineers are in fourth. West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard threw for 212 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 24-of-39 passes. He was bested by Mason Rudolph, who connected on 26-of-36 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns.
The aforementioned Sooners held onto their spot atop the Big 12 after making quick work of the Kansas Jayhawks, 56-3. Baker Mayfield threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns on 16-of-24 passing. All four scoring throws went to different Sooners. Mayfield hooked up with Dede Westbrook, Geno Lewis, Mark Andrews and Dimitri Flowers for those touchdowns. It also helped Oklahoma that Abdul Adams and Joe Mixon combined for 165 rushing yards and a touchdown.
