It’s never too early to look ahead, especially if you’re a fan of a Big Ten team.

Ohio State appeared in the College Football Playoff for the second time in three years, but it got waxed, 31-0, by eventual national champion Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Some felt the Buckeyes didn’t deserve to be considered for the CFP considering they didn’t even win the Big Ten East outright, but their double-overtime victory over Michigan in the regular-season finale was enough to get them a bid.

The team snubbed was Penn State, which won its final nine conference games following a 2-2 start and knocked off Wisconsin to win the Big Ten title. But the Nittany Lions are back on the national scene in college football, and with Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley coming back are poised to be near the top of the rankings again next season.

As for those Wolverines, coach Jim Harbaugh won’t rest until he brings a national championship to Ann Arbor. Actually, he probably wouldn’t rest then either given his dogged reputation on the recruiting trail.

According to early Las Vegas odds, those three programs have the best shot of all the Big Ten football teams to claim the 2017 national championship. Here’s an early look at where the rest of the conference stands.
