The naysayers are out there. They think Michigan isn’t the real deal because it has only played one ranked team – Wisconsin – and had to fight and grind for a 14-7 victory. The bottom line is that the regular-season finale at Ohio State always was going to determine which team rightfully can stake claim as the Big Ten’s best. However, only the Wolverines have passed every other test to this point.

Michigan crushed Maryland and former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, 59-3, on Saturday to remain the conference’s lone unbeaten. That’s the fifth time the Wolverines have allowed eight points or fewer. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing – that’s impressive.

The Buckeyes weren’t outdone, though, putting together a blowout of their own with Saturday night’s 62-3 demolishing of Nebraska. J.T. Barrett threw four touchdown passes – two of them to Curtis Samuel – in an impressive performance. Damon Webb and Malik Hooker returned interceptions for touchdowns, giving Ohio State an FBS-high six TDs off picks.

Nebraska’s loss combined with Wisconsin and Minnesota victories created a three-way tie atop the West division, but the Cornhuskers have to win out and get help in order to play in the Big Ten title game. The Badgers hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Golden Gophers’ visit to Lincoln next week has some added significance.

Here’s how the Big Ten standings look heading into Week 11 of the 2016 season.
