    Boise State 16, Washington 13

Sept. 4 – Up three in the final seconds, Boise State held on as Washington’s Cameron Van Winkle missed a 46-yard field goal. The Broncos dominated in the first half, but allowed the Huskies to get back into it with a Dante Pettis 76-yard punt return for a score and a blocked punt led to one of two Van Winkle field goals for a second half rally. Boise State got two short touchdown runs from Jeremy McNichols and a 24-yard Tyler Rausa field goal for a 16-0 first half lead, but that was it for the offense. The defense held on as Washington drove down the field late, but a few sacks pushed the final field goal attempt out just far enough. Van Winkle hit it well, but pushed it just barely wide right.

    – The Bronco defense was fantastic. Washington was held to just 179 yards and did absolutely nothing on the ground, coming up with just 29 yards on 22 carries. However, the offense stumbled in the second half and couldn’t put the game away. This might not have been the performance needed to move the national needle, but the Broncos came up with the win against a Power 5 team. It’s a start.

    – QB Ryan Finley completed 16-of-26 passes for 129 yards and a pick, and ran 11 times for 30 yards

    – The Huskies are going to be a work in progress, but they fought back. This is a young, young team that’s going to go through some growing pains, and it came within inches of forcing overtime despite getting dominated for most of the game. The offense just couldn’t keep the chains moving, converting 4-of-14 third down chances, and put too much pressure on true freshman quarterback Jake Browning – there was no running game to count on.

    – QB Jake Browning completed 20-of-34 passes for 150 yards with an interception
