Why You Need To Care
In a rare scheduling quirk, Boston College will play its first two games against FCS opponents. The Eagles will attempt to perform better against Howard than they did last Saturday versus Maine, which trailed by just seven points when the fourth quarter began. The Bison was swamped by Appalachian State last Saturday, 49-0.
Why Howard Will Win
The Eagle offense really struggled to move the ball against the Black Bears last weekend. It was a 10-3 game until RB Tyler Rouse broke off a pair of long touchdown runs to put the game out of reach. The Bison can stack the box to stop the backs, because BC QB Darius Wade is still an unproven commodity as a passer.
Why Boston College Will Win
After being blanked by Appalachian State, Howard might need a defensive or special teams touchdown to avoid another shutout. The rugged Eagle D is an immovable object against the run, particularly now that a healthy Mehdi Adbesmad has joined Connor Wujciak and Kevin Kavalec in the trenches.
Player Who Matters
Okay, so it came against Maine, but the Boston College defense is once again salty. The Eagles don’t make many unforced errors, and they don’t budge at the point of attack. Plus, LB Matt Milano had two sacks and DE Harold Landry forced a pair of fumbles in the most significant action of their careers.
What’s Going To Happen?
The Boston College offense will be more effective than it was in the opener, but it won’t need to be to get to 2-0. Eagle backs Jon Hilliman and Rouse will produce more touchdowns than the number of Howard drives that get past midfield.
