Maine and Boston College meet in a Northeast matchup that might generate more buzz if it took place on ice. The Eagles won last year’s meeting, 40-10, and are looking to remain in bowl contention this fall, despite suffering wholesale changes on offense. The Black Bears are aiming to build on a season that started slowly, yet improved down the stretch.

The defense has potential now that veterans Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga, Trevor Bates and Mike Kozlakowski are back to anchor the front seven. It could be rough sledding for a Boston College attack breaking in a new quarterback, Darius Wade, and an entirely different ensemble of blockers.

The Eagles will once again be salty on defense for coordinator Don Brown. The no-name unit will easily control the line of scrimmage, mauling Maine up the middle with LB Steven Daniels and tackles Connor Wujciak and Truman Gutapfel. Boston College wants to establish the run, sure. But the Eagles also need something from the passing game to keep defenses from stacking the box. Wade, who’ll make things happen with his feet, needs to determine in his first start which of an average group of receivers he can count upon.
