Former Florida guard Brandone Francis-Ramirez has announced he will transfer to Texas Tech.

The upcoming 2016-17 season is off to a rousing start for new Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard.

Florida transfer guard Brandone Francis-Ramirez took to social media on Tuesday and announced his decision to continue his college career with the Red Raiders.

“As a student I will be full time at Texas Tech and as a basketball athlete I will be playing full time for full time for Texas Tech Men’s Basketball #WreckEm!!!!!”
Francis-Ramirez chose to join Beard’s program after visits to both Texas Tech and Rutgers.

Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Francis-Ramirez is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound combo guard that is capable of operating as both a point guard and shooting guard.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, he will have to sit out the 2016-17 season, but will then have three years of eligibility remaining after his redshirt season. Francis-Ramirez also had to take a redshirt year with the Gators in 2014-15 due to academic reasons.

In his lone year at Florida, Francis-Ramirez averaged just 2.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. While those numbers clearly aren’t inspiring, there is plenty of room for growth with this young guard. Coming out of high school, Francis-Ramirez was a 4-star prospect that had offers from a number of high-caliber programs, such as Indiana, Louisville and Miami.

While he didn’t quite fit into Mike White’s system at Florida, Francis-Ramirez has very high upside and, when in the right system, can thrive with the ball in his hands. Assuming his game translates smoothly under coach Beard, Francis-Ramirez should see significant improvement and play a large role in Texas Tech’s backcourt.
