Will Liberty go bowling?
With bowl season less than a month away, we are now down to 34 bowls.
Stadium reported on Monday that the Sun Bowl won’t be played this year, while the Pinstripe Bowl announced it also wouldn’t be played. Both the Pac-12 and ACC have each lost four bowl tie-ins, and sources told Stadium they are afraid there could be more cancellations.
However, even with nearly three dozen bowls remaining, there may not be one available for No. 25 Liberty (9-1), sources said.
The reason is that independent Liberty doesn’t have a guaranteed bowl affiliation and this season there are no win requirements to become bowl eligible. Bowls are expected to fill their games with teams from their designated conference affiliation, a source said. If that happens, Liberty — even if it finishes nationally ranked and 10-1 — would not receive a bowl bid.
