5-Star RB Cam Akers Commits To Florida State Seminoles

Five-star running back Cam Akers committed to Florida State on Tuesday, giving the Seminoles 17 total commits in their 2017 recruiting class.

The nation’s No. 2 running back has finally seen his recruitment come to a close.

On Tuesday evening, 5-star prospect Cam Akers committed to Florida State over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Akers, who’s from Clinton, Mississippi, is also ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the 2017 recruiting class.

With the 299 recruiting points picked up with the addition of Akers, the Seminoles now have 17 total commits in the cycle and move up from No. 13 to No. 11 in the recruiting class rankings. FSU now has 3,017 total points and passed both Penn State and Maryland in the process.

Akers is instantly the highest-rated commit for FSU in the cycle, right in front of 5-star cornerback Stanford Samuels III. He’s also the third blue-chip tailback to commit to the ‘Noles. FSU also has pledges from 4-star running backs Khalan Laborn and Zaquandre White.

With Akers being added to the backfield, Florida State is now set up nicely to help fill the shoes of Dalvin Cook, who will be making the jump to the NFL.

At 5-foot-11, 212 lbs Akers is the complete package at halfback. He seldom gets taken down on first contact, as he runs with great balance and power. He possesses the kind of cutback ability that allows him to read and react to what the defense is giving him, which also speaks to his vision when toting the rock.

It’s that kind of arsenal that will allow Akers to compete for college football’s most prestigious accolades. And, if he improves as a pass blocker, we’ll be referring to Akers as a first-round NFL Draft pick.
