Charlie Strong has been in talks with Temple about its head coaching position after Matt Rhule left the Owls for Baylor.

Charlie Strong has been out of a job for less than two weeks, and his name is already coming up for potential head coaching jobs.

Temple, who is looking to replace Matt Rhule after he left for the Baylor head coaching job, has been in contact with Strong about possibly becoming the new head man for the Owls, per Philly.com.

Strong was fired on November 26 by Texas after three seasons in Austin that saw the Longhorns go 16-21, including 5-7 this season, and missing out on a bowl game the last two years. While Strong came in with a winning pedigree, tasked with rebuilding the Longhorns after the program fell off in Mack Brown’s final years, the powers-to-be at Texas never seemed to completely warm up to him.

The move would be beneficial for both Strong and the Owls, as Rhule has turned Temple into a contender, winning the American Athletic Conference championship this season and putting together back-to-back 10-win seasons. Strong has proven to be an excellent recruiter, both as an assistant with stops at South Carolina and Florida, and also as a head coach.

Aside from Temple, Strong has also been mentioned for the South Florida job after its head coach, Willie Taggart, decided to accept the same position at Oregon.
