    Why You Need To Care

In its first-ever FBS game, Charlotte picked up its first-ever FBS win, beating Georgia State at the Georgia Dome. Brad Lambert’s 49ers now want to prove they can handle prosperity and avoid a letdown in front of the home crowd. A Big South team on the rise, Presbyterian lost its opener to Miami University, 26-7.

    Why Presbyterian Will Win

The defense is solid, sparking last year’s first winning season at the FCS level. LB Donnelle Williams and S Ed Britt are the sparkplugs for a unit that gave up just 16 points per game in 2014, and stiffened when it needed to last weekend versus the RedHawks.

    Why Charlotte Will Win

The 49ers have the wind at their backs, thanks to the win last Friday in Atlanta. Charlotte also has better offensive options than Presbyterian, namely the proven trio of QB Matt Johnson, RB Kalif Phillips and WR Austin Duke. When a second-half conversion is needed, the 49ers are more likely to get it than the Blue Hose.

    Player Who Matters

Lambert is thrilled to have a healthy Caleb Clayton-Molby back at the second level of the defense. The linebacker started fast in 2014, but was lost after three games to a season-ending injury. Healthy again, he made two stops for loss in Week 1, a bright spot for a defense that’s still not at a Conference USA level.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Presbyterian is feisty on defense, but it lacks the offensive pop to win at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Moreover, Charlotte is going to feed off of a home crowd excited to have FBS football in town for something other than a bowl game or the ACC title matchup.
