College Basketball Injuries Leave Us With A ‘Case Of The Mondays’

College basketball injuries to stars at Indiana and Creighton have turned championship dreams into championship hopes.

Injuries to stars at Indiana and Creighton have turned championship dreams into championship hopes.

    Injuries are the worst.

OG Anonoby, whom I pegged him as the preseason Big Ten player of the year, out for year with IU.

Maurice Watson Jr.’s career is over at Creighton. He was the nation’s leader in assists.

Myles Davis, no injury, he just quit on his Xavier Musketeers, ending his career by choice. And he was a senior that averaged double figures.

For a second it appeared as if Kentucky was gonna take a hit as well when De’Aaron Fox went down. But to the relief of BBN, that was merely a short term scare.

Each of these aforementioned teams was a legitimate title contender.

Are their paths altered from these unfortunate circumstances? That remains to be seen.

So what’s the takeaway from all the carnage? Depth, competitive fire, and intestinal fortitude offer these programs their only hope to remain on track for what they hope to accomplish.

IU? Responded after OG injury with a win over Michigan State

XU? A convincing win over Georgetown.

Creighton? Not so positive in their response, giving up 102 in a loss to Marquette.

So the future remains to be seen for these embattled rosters, but lets go glass half full. These three programs are led by some big time coaches: Tom Crean, Chris Mack, and Greg McDermott. They will recalibrate, adjust, and continue on their path, gunning for the Final Four in Phoenix.
