We are well into fall practice now, with position battles being decided while preparations for the first opponents are getting underway. There’s a lot going on, with a Florida player leaving the Gators, Alabama’s Kenyan Drake trolling the Clemson Tigers, and a Nebraska coach being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Let’s take a look at some other notes in our latest college football news roundup.

Two Buckeyes Injured – Defensive lineman Darius Slade is out for the season after suffering a ruptured Achilles injury. The redshirt sophomore was supposed to provide depth to the defensive line as a backup. The offensive line took a hit as well with the knee injury of Malcolm Pridgeon. Pridgeon is a JUCO transfer that was competing for spots at both left guard and right tackle.

Maguire Out, Francois In – After suffering a broken bone in his right foot on Wednesday, Florida State quarterback Sean Maguire will miss 3-4 weeks, head coach Jimbo Fisher announced. Maguire was locked into a battle with Deondre Francois for the starting position. The injury means Francois will likely be the starter when the Seminoles open the season on September 5 against Ole Miss in Orlando.

LSU Fan Day Cancelled – Due to a massive amount of rain in the Baton Rouge area, the Tigers had to cancel their fan day that was set for Sunday. Major flooding has occurred in the area with many stranded drivers on I-12 having to be rescued.

Mizzou Player In Trouble – After being arrested for stealing, Tigers running back Trevon Walters was suspended from the team indefinitely by head coach Barry Odom.

Sad News Out Of New Haven – Handsome Dan XVII, Yale’s English bulldog mascot, died on Friday. The cause of death is most likely a heart attack.

From Defensive Line To Lobbying For Votes – In one of the stranger announcements of a player deciding to leave a program, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said on Saturday that junior DL Raashed Kennion was no longer with the program after opting to pursue a career in politics. Malzahn did not say what Kennion’s platforms or political leanings are, so we will just have to wait.
