College Football News Roundup – August 19

A college football news roundup that includes a Nebraska assistant gets suspended, and USC being very cautious with one if its stars.

It’s Friday! You made it, so congratulations. Two weeks from now, a lot of us will be traveling to our respective alma maters preparing to tailgate, cheer on our college football team, and hopefully come away with a season-opening victory. Yesterday, LSU running back Leonard Fournette assured folks that he will be ready for the Wisconsin game, Florida named Luke Del Rio its starting quarterback, and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh got (even more) paid. Let’s take a look at some other notes in our college football news roundup.

Suspension For Cornhuskers Assistant – After receiving his third DUI on Sunday, Nebraska wide receivers coach Keith Williams has been suspended without pay until August 31. Williams will attend counseling, and won’t attend or coach at the first four games of the season.

New Home For The Panthers – The Braves are moving out of Turner Field in downtown Atlanta, so Georgia State has bought the field. The university will convert the property into its own football stadium. The area surrounding the stadium will also be used for student housing and classroom space for the university.

Keeping Track – The USC Trojans have been keeping an eye on wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, but it isn’t due to trouble. Rather, the coaches are making sure that Smith-Schuster doesn’t overdo himself when it comes to training, something he has done in the past.
