College football news roundup for Monday, Sept. 5, including Pat Narduzzi putting a lockdown on his Pitt Panthers and a key loss to Wisconsin’s defense.

It has already been quite the first week of the 2016 college football season, and we still have the Florida State-Ole Miss matchup to go tonight in Orlando. Texas pulled off the upset of Notre Dame in double overtime, Les Miles’ hot seat continues to burn at LSU, and Steve Sarkisian joins the Alabama coaching staff. Below are some other college football news nuggets as we approach Week 2.

Narduzzi Mutes The Panthers – Going into the first matchup in 15 years against Penn State, Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi has basically put the lockdown on his players.

“We don’t want any distractions,” Narduzzi said. “I’d rather them go right in the film room. If it’s three minutes (with the media), it might be the three minutes we’ll miss (in film).”

Florida Receiving Depth Takes A Hit – After suffering a knee injury on the opening kickoff against UMass on Saturday, Florida wide receiver Dre Massey will be out for the rest of the 2016 season, head coach Jim McElwain said on Monday. Massey was expected to be a key playmaker for the Gators, and will be missed on an offense that is still looking to gel and produce points.

Notre Dame WR Torri Hunter Update – After suffering a head injury in the Fighting Irish’s loss to Texas last night, the status of wide receiver Torii Hunter is still up in the air, per head coach Brian Kelly.

“Too early to tell,” Kelly said.

Another Badger Linebacker Out – Filling in for leading tackler T.J. Edwards on Saturday against LSU, Wisconsin linebacker Chris Orr suffered a right ACL injury and will be out for the rest of the season. Orr still tried to keep his spirits up despite the news.

“He crutched in and said, ‘Just want to make sure you saw me smiling today,'” Chryst said during his weekly news conference. “He goes, ‘I’ll be back.’ I believed him. These kids do put so much into it. You hate it for them.”
