Kicker Opens Up – Penn State kicker Joey Julius has been making headlines for his hard hits on the field, but he struggled this past year away from it with an eating disorder. Julius opened up about seeking treatment for the disorder this summer so to help others that may be suffering from the same problem.
“Due to my increase in not only weight but also depression and anxiety, my team physicians started to notice not only a change in my overall happiness but also my performance as a normal human being,” Julius wrote. “Throughout this whole process I learned a lot about myself. I learned that for the last 11 years of my life, I have suffered through a disorder known as binge eating disorder.”
Quarterback Change – Kansas head coach David Beaty has a tough climb to make the Jayhawks respectable in football, and now he is going to try a new quarterback, Ryan Willis, after starter Montell Cozart was ineffective.
“[Willis] has shown some real progress for us from fall camp moving along, in terms of how he’s studying and the way he’s starting to understand,” Beaty said on his weekly radio show. “I think his efficiency has been a little better for us than even Montell has produced for us.”
Chemotherapy Over A Loss? – Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego is no stranger to chemotherapy, as he underwent the treatment after being diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2015. Still, he would rather go through that than another blowout loss to rival Western Michigan.
“You can quote me on this: I would rather go through eight weeks of chemotherapy radiation again than lose to that team the way we lost tonight,” Bonamego said. “That’s the truth to how I feel.”
