College Football News Roundup – December 28

A college football news roundup that includes two key players deciding to return to Oklahoma State next season and a familiar name popping up to become UConn’s next head coach.

There’s something about a sushi joint in an airport that intrigues me, and gets me to stop every time. This place in O’Hare called Wicker Park has fantastic food, and even if I have just arrived, I seriously consider stopping for a quick bite before collecting my luggage. Why is this? I have no idea. Maybe the lure of Sapporo and Hamachi is too much for me.

In college football news, Clemson defensive back Jadar Johnson gave Ohio State some bulletin board material, we take a look at the 20 biggest stories of 2016, and FSU gained a big commitment in 5-star running back Cam Akers. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Returning to Stillwater – Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy received some good news in the form of quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington deciding to return for their senior seasons in 2017. Washington caught 62 passes for 1,209 yards and nine touchdowns this season while Rudolph threw for 3,777 yards and 25 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Back in Storrs? – Uconn fired head coach Bob Diaco after three seasons, and the Huskies might be looking at bringing back someone familiar to the program: Randy Edsall. Edsall was the head coach of the Huskies for 12 seasons before leaving for the Maryland job in 2011.

(Update: Per the Hartford Courant, Edsall has agreed to return as head coach of UConn.)

Bowl Overload – In bowl actions on Tuesday, Army outlasted North Texas in overtime and Wake Forest held on to defeat Temple. In later action, Minnesota shut down the potent Washington State offense in a victory while Baylor dominated Boise State, 31-12.
