There are only a few states that I have never stepped foot in, and Montana is one of them. While I am not an outdoorsman by any means (I can sense everyone who knows me nodding silently), I would like to one day go to Big Sky Country and have bison roaming around … well, until I freak out at the idea of wild game just roaming around me. I would then get back in my car and check into the nearest hotel, but for those few seconds, the wilderness would be amazing.

In college football news, FAU head coach Lane Kiffin is still trolling Auburn, Washington quarterback Jake Browning undergoes shoulder surgery, and we take a look at why Nebraska is ready to contend under head coach Mike Riley. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

L$U – The checkbooks have been thoroughly opened in Baton Rouge, as the announcement of new offensive coordinator Matt Canada’s contract was announced on Wednesday. For his services, LSU will pay Canada $1.5 million a year for three years. The contract includes a $500,000 base salary along with $1 million from other sources.

Adding in defensive coordinator Dave Aranda’s $1.8 million per year contract, and you have some extremely happy assistants under new head coach Ed Orgeron.

Elementary, My Dear Watson – Due to a long season that was capped off with a national championship, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has decided to not play in the Senior Bowl. Watson is also beginning preparations for the NFL Combine and is expected to be a top pick, maybe No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns, in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Wake Me Up, Before You Go-Go – Dave Clawson has gone out and hired a new defensive coordinator for his staff at Wake Forest in Jay Sawvel, who spent the last six seasons at Minnesota, including as defensive coordinator this past season.

“Jay’s background has been running a very similar defensive scheme to what we have run at Wake Forest,” Clawson said in a statement. “He has been involved in building winning programs at Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois. His ability to build programs and develop young talent is very impressive.”
