I was once asked to leave a Winn-Dixie after myself and two friends thought it would be fun to act out the “Big Sweep” portion of the wonderful game show Supermarket Sweep. I went right to the deli section and grabbed some big-ass hams and threw them in my cart (only five allowed per item) and then ran with my grocery cart to the medical aisle. That is when a manager alerted me that we were creating a disturbance and for us to exit the building. College was fun, but we were idiots.

In college football, South Florida quarterback Quinton Flowers has gone from heartbreak to stardom, we take a look at the underhyped games you shouldn’t miss this week, and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is having fun with his team this season. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

What? How? Uh???? – We all know Alabama head coach Nick Saban is focused, but the fact that he admitted that he wasn’t aware that Tuesday was Election Day is just frightening. In his press conference, Saban said:

“I don’t really make political comments. If I say I like one person, that means that everybody that voted for the other person doesn’t like me. So why would I do that? I want what’s best for our country. I’m not sure I can figure that out. I want what’s best for people who want to improve the quality of their life, and I hope whoever our leader is will certainly do all that he can do to make our country safe and improve the quality of life of a lot of people in our country — and I don’t think I’m qualified to determine who that should be.”

Don’t be so modest, Nick. We know you have plans to run in 2020!

New Coach At Fresno – Former Cal head coach Jeff Tedford will become the new head coach at Fresno State. The Bulldogs fired Tim DeRuyter earlier this season and have had a target on Tedford, who had a successful stint in Berkeley. The 55-year-old Tedford (who never ages) graduated from Fresno State in 1983 and played quarterback for the Bulldogs.

Potpourri – This is not exactly breaking news, but it was to me when my good friend Steven alerted me last night: former Pittsburgh Panther wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald graduated from the University of Phoenix and appears in a commercial for the online school. The weird thing? The commercial shows a picture of him in a Pitt jersey.

That is excellent free advertising for the Panthers.
