A college football news roundup that includes both USC and North Carolina losing receivers for the season, and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly getting into another heated exchange.

Coaches getting fired, teams playing themselves out of the College Football Playoff, and bye weeks: all part of the fun that is mid-October in the world of college football. In the news, Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck deserves more attention, we take a look at the Purdue wish list for its next head coach, and an injury update on Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis does not look promising for the Gators. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

More Troubled Trojans – USC, who is trying to turn around the season following a rough start, received some tough news, as receiver Steven Mitchell Jr. will miss the rest of the year with a torn left ACL. The injury occurred during the Trojans 48-14 win over Arizona on Saturday.

Another Wide Receiver Out – The North Carolina Tar Heels will be without a big weapon at receiver as Mack Hollins broke his collarbone on Saturday in the win over Miami. Hollins will miss the rest of the season. He led the Tar Heels with four touchdown passes so far this year and had caught 13 passes for 252 yards.

Coach Fight – After the ugly Stanford-Notre Dame game on Saturday in which the Cardinal defeated the Fighting Irish, 17-10, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly got into a war of words with Stanford’s strength and conditioning coach after the latter supposedly said, “Bye, bye,” to Kelly. That’s weird: it isn’t like Kelly to get all angry for no apparent reason and blame someone else for his actions.
