With National Signing Day wrapped up, Campus Insiders takes a look at the 2017 recruiting class rankings, as we now know which schools have landed in the top 50.
With National Signing Day wrapped up, we take a look at the Top 50 college football recruiting rankings.
National Signing Day 2017 is in the books, and right out of the gate there was a clear story line: USC. Much like this past season, the Trojans closed like gangbusters. From the early commitment of Levi Jones to the back-to-back midday signings of 5-star talents Jay Tufele and Austin Jackson to the inking of wideout Joseph Lewis, USC was hell on wheels. What was assumed following the Rose Bowl can now be expected in the wake of National Signing Day: the Trojans will open next season as a prohibitive favorite to reach the College Football Playoff.
Alabama and Ohio State inked most of their commits prior to Signing Day, and led the nation in 5-star signings with six apiece.
In a broad-scope view of the recruiting landscape, once again it’s the SEC reigning supreme. Five of the nation’s top 10 recruiting classes were from the Southeastern Conference – Alabama (No. 1), Georgia (2), LSU (7), Texas A&M (9) and Florida (10).
If there was one blatant surprise from National Signing Day, it was Clemson. Despite being the reigning champions, the Tigers finished outside the Top 25, at No. 26. That said, Clemson did only have 14 total commits – the fewest in the ACC. Of their 2017 recruiting class, 11 were 4-stars and three were 3-stars. So, while the overall class ranking appears low, it can be argued that Dabo Swinney and his staff took a quality over quantity approach.
Below is a comprehensive look at the final recruiting class rankings for 2017.
