We now have a clearer image of the recruitment of the nation’s No. 3 inside linebacker.

On Thursday, 4-star prospect Dax Hollifield took a step forward in his recruitment by revealing his list of top schools that featured nine well-known programs. Hollifield, who’s from Shelby, North Carolina, chose to include powerhouse programs from the ACC, Pac-12 and SEC while including one independent school.

In alphabetical order, Hollifield’s top schools are Alabama, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

His decision to unveil his top schools comes on the heels of an unofficial visit to his home-state Tar Heels this past weekend. Prior to that trip to Chapel Hill, the No. 185 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class last spent an unofficial visit at South Carolina for the Gamecocks’ junior day on Jan. 28.

Right now, it appears Justin Fuente’s Hokies are the team to beat for Hollifield’s commitment. The 4-star linebacker visited Blacksburg on Nov. 26, about nine months after Virginia Tech put its scholarship offer on the table.

Of the teams to be included on Hollifield’s list, the Fighting Irish were the last to inform him he’d have a free ride. Notre Dame extended an offer to Hollifield on Feb. 8, one day after Alabama made it clear he had a scholarship waiting in Tuscaloosa.
