Report: Ex-FSU QB De’Andre Johnson To Play For Lane Kiffin At FAU

FAU's Lane Kiffin has signed his first recruit. Former FSU QB De'Andre Johnson will play for the Owls.

FAU head coach Lane Kiffin has signed his first recruit at his new school. Former FSU QB De’Andre Johnson is headed to Boca Raton to play for the Owls.

Lane Kiffin’s FAU tenure is already off to a noteworthy start.

The former Alabama offensive coordinator, who was hired by the Owls to turn around their struggling program, was able to get ex-FSU quarterback De’Andre Johnson to sign with the school, according to 247Sports. The East Mississippi Community College product is expected to enroll in January and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

The 3-star prospect from Jacksonville, Florida, who signed with FSU in the 2015 class, was one of the better pro-style JUCO prospects in the Class of 2017. He is the 13th verbal commit in this cycle for FAU and the first to sign since Kiffin was hired.

Johnson, who was a former Florida “Mr. Football” at Jacksonville First Coast, was a freshman at FSU when he was seen on video punching a woman in a bar. He was dismissed from the program in July 2015 and charged with misdemeanor battery. That same month, he appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to apologize to the woman he struck.

He threw for 2,646 yards and 26 touchdowns against six interceptions in 11 games, averaging 240.5 yards per contest, during his 2016 campaign at East Mississippi Community College.

The new FAU signal-caller is the brother of 2018 5-star defensive back Tyreke Johnson, who has said that he plans to play with his brother in college. So this signing could ultimately be a real coup for Kiffin and the Owls.
