Florida State faces the tall task of having to stop Lamar Jackson this week, and it doesn’t look like the Seminoles will have Derwin James around to help.

Coach Jimbo Fisher appeared on a Tallahassee radio show on Monday morning and confirmed the star defensive back “will miss some time,” eluding to the fact James will sit out Saturday’s showdown at No. 10 Louisville. James left last week’s win over Charleston Southern in the third quarter after planting his leg while making a hit.

The defensive back limped to the sidelines with what appeared to be a left knee injury, and Fisher could not provide an update after the game. James is scheduled to have an MRI on the knee Monday.

Fisher also said on his radio appearance that he isn’t expecting the worst possible news, as there has been speculation James might have torn his ACL. While the longterm prognosis might be okay, that still doesn’t help for this coming Saturday.

Jackson has emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate while totaling over 1,000 yards of total offense and 13 touchdowns through two games. He’s dangerous both through the air and on the ground, and discussion about the Cardinals reaching the College Football Playoff certainly will ramp up if they can knock off the second-ranked Seminoles.

Florida State’s mission to stop Jackson takes a big hit without James in uniform.
