Now that former 5-star quarterback Tate Martell has gone off and begun his career at Ohio State, the time has come for 4-star prospect Dorian Thompson-Robinson to step into the limelight and the starting quarterback role for Bishop Gorman High School.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Las Vegas native is ranked as the No. 7 quarterback and No. 74 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, and he has a very impressive list of Division I scholarship offers.

However, many of them were dropped from the race on Tuesday night when Thompson-Robinson revealed his top schools list. Seven high-powered programs representing the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC made the cut.

In alphabetical order, Thompson-Robinson’s top choices are Cal, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and UCLA.

Early on, it appeared the Wolverines were pulling out in front for his eventual commitment. Thompson-Robinson developed a solid relationship with Jedd Fisch while he was serving as Michigan’s passing game coordinator. However, Fisch left the Wolverines this offseason to become the Bruins’ new offensive coordinator.

Now, it’s UCLA who has become the favorite in Thompson-Robinson’s recruitment.

As entertaining as it would be for the 4-star quarterback to take a spot opposite Martell in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, the path toward UCLA seems to be clearing up. Aside from having Fisch and Jim Mora as his potential coaches, Thompson-Robinson would be able to compete for early playing time because Josh Rosen is expected to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft after his junior season.

Still, the race is wide open at this point, and both Cal and Oregon should be watched closely. The Golden Bears and Ducks could have open quarterback jobs as well by the time Thompson-Robinson is on a college campus.
