5-Star 2018 SF Emmanuel Akot Commits To Arizona

One of the most sought-after prospects in the 2018 class made an early decision Thursday, as 5-star forward Emmanuel Akot committed to Arizona over Oregon, Utah and Louisville.

Not many highly ranked prospects in the 2018 class have announced their commitments, but one has come off the board early.

Five-star forward Emmanuel Akot on Thursday announced his pledge to Arizona on Twitter, choosing the Wildcats over Oregon, Utah and Louisville.

“Thank you to all the schools that recruited me and I wish you all nothing but the best,” Akot wrote on Twitter. “I’m blessed that I’ll be committing to the University of Arizona! BEAR DOWN!”

Akot, who is a native of Canada, has been one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2018 class and is the consensus No. 1 player in Utah. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound slasher is extremely athletic and can play multiple positions on both ends of the floor. He creates his own shot off the dribble and is explosive to the rim, where he can finish with some of the best prospects in the country.

Arizona has been hard after Akot, who officially visited the Wildcats on Feb. 24 for their game against UCLA. They’ve watched him play plenty over the last year and seem to be the favorite for some time, but Louisville has also made a strong push.

Akot took an official visit to Utah on March 1-3 as the Utes made their pitch to keep him in his adopted state.

Akot has received seven offers and is the No. 15 player in the nation in his class, both according to Scout.com. He’s a consensus 5-star and top-20 prospect by all major outlets. And despite his commitment, it’s not likely that top-tier programs will give up that easily.
