The highest-ranked, uncommitted college basketball prospect in the class of 2019 announced his future plans on Tuesday morning.

Five-star combo guard R.J. Hampton is choosing to play overseas in the NBL in New Zealand after it was reported that he would decide from a list of three final schools that included Kansas, Memphis and Texas Tech.

Hampton was originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class before reclassifying in late April.

The 6-5 native of Little Elm, Texas took an official visit to Kansas on December 14 and Memphis on September 13. Kansas was believed to be the favorite for Hampton, according to the 247Sports crystal ball that received 81 percent of votes in favor of the Jayhawks as of Monday.

247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Jerry Meyer compared Hampton to Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie and projected Hampton to be a future first round pick in the NBA Draft.

Memphis currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, while Kansas’ backcourt is currently in limbo as guards Quentin Grimes and Devon Dotson both declared for the NBA Draft after their freshman seasons. The withdrawal deadline is Wednesday.
