Five-Star Point Guard Collin Sexton Commits To Alabama

Five-star point guard Collin Sexton has committed to Alabama. He is the No. 2 point guard and No. 9 overall recruit in the 2017 class.

Avery Johnson has completely revolutionized the Alabama basketball program since taking over in April of 2015.

After leading the Crimson Tide to a respectful 18-15 record in his first year as head coach last season, Johnson has brought a plethora of new additions that are bound to elevate the Tide to a new level.

Headlining these new additions is 2017 five-star point guard Collin Sexton, who announced his commitment to Alabama as part of ESPNU’s National Signing Day.

Of all the accomplishments Johnson has already achieved in his short time in Tuscaloosa, landing Sexton has got to be at the top of his list.

The No. 2 point guard and No. 9 overall recruit in the 2017 class, Sexton is an extremely explosive and aggressive scorer. He’s got great length for a point guard and uses a quick first step to blow past opponents and get to the rim. A crafty ball-handler, Sexton does a great job at creating space, leading to a lot of open looks for himself and his teammates. He can score off the bounce, has impressive shooting range and knock down shots from any spot on the floor. He likes to play up-tempo basketball and is tough to stop in transition thanks to his agility.

Though he doesn’t quite fit the mold of a true point guard, he still acts as a great leader on the court and in one of the best pure scorers in his class.

And Sexton is going to have a plethora of weapons around him. Daniel Giddens, an Ohio State transfer and one of the hottest names on the transfer market this past offseason, committed to Alabama and will be eligible to play by the time Sexton arrives.

Joining Sexton in Alabama’s 2017 class is four-star power forward Alex Reese, another sharp shooter that is capable of stretching the floor and playing physical defense in the post. The Tide also welcome three-star small forward Herb Jones and center Gallin Smith.

Watch out, Nick Saban. There’s another head coach in town starting to grab headlines.
