A new school is seemingly in play for highly sought-after quarterback Jarrett Stidham, as Florida has taken interest in bringing in the former Baylor Bear to fix an offense that has struggled during Jim McElwain’s tenure in Gainesville, per 247 Sports.
The Gators join SEC programs Auburn and Texas A&M as those interested in the talents of the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Stidham. The Tigers’ offense went downhill at the end of the season after the injury to quarterback Sean White, and Stidham would compete against him and redshirt freshman Woody Barrett for the starting job. In College Station, replacing Trevor Knight will be key for head coach Kevin Sumlin, with Stidham likely competing with incoming freshman Kellen Mond.
The Gators are the most in need of a quarterback, as the position has been a whirlwind since the days of Tim Tebow taking snaps. Florida is ranked No. 86 in passing offense, throwing for just 211.1 yards per game and have been unable to find a quarterback that can move the chains and put points on the board. With Stidham, McElwain would have an experienced passer around whom he could build the type of offense he prefers to employ.
Stidham threw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns during his freshman season in Waco before being injured against Oklahoma in Week 11. Amid all the turmoil surrounding the Baylor program this past offseason, Stidham decided to transfer. He will have three years of eligibility left, and is expected to announce his decision in December.
