Florida football player T.J. McCoy was reportedly the victim of a hit-and-run while riding his scooter early Friday morning in Gainesville, FL.

According to the Gainesville Sun, the team’s starting center and his girlfriend were hit and thrown off of the scooter around 3 a.m. local time. The driver of the vehicle, who was allegedly intoxicated, fled the scene but was found and arrested shortly thereafter. The driver told police officers that she had consumed alcohol at a bar just outside of Florida’s campus about two hours prior to the incident.

Per OnlyGators.com, McCoy was hospitalized “at least” overnight following the accident. McCoy and his girlfriend were found to have non-life-threatening injuries. On Saturday, McCoy posted on Twitter that he suffered no serious injuries and plans to attend church with his family on Sunday.

“I thank God that my girlfriend, myself and the person that hit us were not seriously injured,” he wrote. “I’m alive, I have no broken bones or fractures. I do have road burns and I’m a little sore, but I’m resting and getting stronger.”

McCoy came to Florida as a transfer from NC State two summers ago in 2015. He wanted to be closer to his father, Tony, who is a former all-SEC defensive tackle for the Gators who would go on to play in the NFL for nine seasons. The elder McCoy had been battling leukemia, though it is now in remission.

Last year, McCoy played in seven games and became the starting center later in the season.
