Fordham vs. Holy Cross Prediction, Game Preview

Fordham vs. Holy Cross prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins Saturday’s matchup between the Rams and the Crusaders.

When: Saturday, Nov. 12, 3 p.m. ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
Broadcast: Campus Insiders, Twitter

Yankee Stadium will once again play host to college football, when Fordham (6-3) and Holy Cross (4-6) square off in one of Major League Baseball’s most recognizable cathedrals. Since opening in 2009, Yankee Stadium has served as a venue for various college football games, including Notre Dame vs. Army, the annual Pinstripe Bowl, and a Patriot League tilt between Lehigh and Lafayette – a game won by Lafayette.

On Saturday Fordham and Holy Cross will play the 54th edition of the Ram-Crusader Cup, a series that dates back to 1902. Fordham won last year’s contest in overtime, 47-41, while Holy Cross holds the all-time series lead, 27-24-2.

What To Know About Fordham

Look out for Chase Edmonds. Only a junior, Edmonds is the program’s all-time leading rusher – a record he set with his 182 yards on the ground against Georgetown last week – and record holder for both total and rushing touchdowns. Edmonds had a field day in last year’s contest, rushing for 162 yards and four touchdowns, including the clincher in overtime. Not just the best player on the field, he might be the best player in the conference.

Fordham comes into this game needing a win to keep in the race for the FCS playoffs as an at-large team.

What to Know About Holy Cross

Holy Cross inched closer to .500 on the year after defeating Georgetown, 21-20. Quarterback Geoff Wade threw for 308 yards and a touchdown, with Brendan Flaherty hauling in nine of those passes for a whopping 196 yards. For his efforts, Flaherty was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.

Holy Cross was able to hold on to the victory thanks to some timely plays by linebackers Andre Chevalier and Kyle Young. Both recorded interceptions with under three minutes to play to neuter any hopes of a Hoyas comeback.

Georgetown only netted 65 rushing yards against the Crusaders. Another strong effort will be needed by the front seven when going against Edmonds, who will one day likely be the conference’s all-time leading rusher.

Fordham vs. Holy Cross Prediction

It figures to be an absolutely gorgeous day for football on Saturday, with sunny skies and the temperature hovering around 50 degrees at kickoff. The fans will be rocking and the atmosphere will be fantastic.

The unconventional playing field and rivalry emotions will make for a shaky contest early on. Holy Cross starts off with a good defensive effort, but ultimately succumbs to the body blows Edmonds delivers. Eventually the dam busts, and a Fordham team motivated to reach the postseason blows it open late.

Fordham vs. Holy Cross Score Prediction: Fordham 31, Holy Cross 17
