Dwayne Bacon’s time in Tallahassee has come to an end.

Florida State’s star guard announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he is leaving Tallahassee for greener pastures, declaring for the 2017 NBA Draft and leaving the school after a sophomore campaign that had a bitter ending.

The Seminoles were thoroughly outplayed by Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the season in quite a disappointing fashion considering Leonard Hamilton’s squad had earned a No. 3 seed in the Big Dance. The ‘Noles also had a stretch during the year in which they defeated five of six AP Top 25 opponents in a six-game period.

While the news is disappointing for fans who wanted another year to watch Bacon at the collegiate level, there were some who thought he would leave FSU after his standout freshman campaign. Fellow ACC star Jayson Tatum also announced on Wednesday that he is leaving for the NBA after one season at Duke.

The 6-foot-7, 221-pound Bacon has a pro-ready body, but his draft positioning has been up for debate among NBA Draft analysts because he struggled with his shot from roughly the midpoint of January toward the end of the regular season. However, he heated back up in the ACC Tournament loss to Notre Dame as well as the team’s two contests in the Big Dance.

Bacon led the Seminoles in scoring in each of the last two seasons, raising his average from 15.8 points per game in 2015-2016 to 17.2 this season.

Now Seminole fans will wait to see if 6-foot-10 star forward Jonathan Isaac elects to leave after his freshman campaign. While still raw, he has a high ceiling and could be a potential lottery pick.
