FSU and Ole Miss will open their season on Monday night in Orlando to close out the best opening weekend in college football history. Campus Insiders has employed its staff to offer predictions for this premier game between two teams national championship aspirations.

    Jonathan Bass

Chad Kelly vs. Dalvin Cook – winner moves on in the season-long march for the Heisman. This could be the best game of the entire weekend. It kinda has the feel of that 2014 FSU-Oklahoma State shootout, no?

This all comes down to Deondre Francois. Fans of the Seminoles have been touting him as the program’s next great quarterback, and in this game he’s being provided the perfect platform for a coming out party.

FSU will beat Ole Miss in a shootout, Hugh Freeze will tweet out some motivational scripture, Jimbo Fisher will talk a million miles an hour about how his team’s “gotta get better,” and we’ll all reflect on the greatest opening weekend in college football history.

What a way to finish off what has the potential to be the best opening weekend the sport has seen. And Dalvin Cook is going to be the reason we appreciate seeing it all the way through to Monday.

FSU’s redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois will have some jitters early on after being thrust into the national spotlight and playing in his hometown of Orlando. But I see Cook going for at least 170 yards, Francois settling in and Florida State putting up plenty of offense in a game that will be high-scoring.

Chad Kelly will have a big game, too, but it won’t be enough to overcome the more-talented Seminoles.

Dalvin is going to tear the Ole Miss defense to shreds. Jimbo Fisher will work his star tailback through the A-gaps and B-gaps just enough to force Hugh Freeze’s hand and stack the box. That’s when FSU will let Deondre Francois throw the deep ball and connect with Travis Rudolph.

On the other side of the ball, DeMarcus Walker is going to live in the backfield and constantly disrupt the Rebels offense. Chad Kelly will have his moments and put up points, but the Ole Miss offensive line will adjust to Walker, and that’s when Josh Sweat will come in hot off the edge while Derwin James patrols the secondary The Seminoles will win this one comfortably.

This game will be high scoring affair fit for a Labor Day viewing. FSU running back Dalvin Cook is one of the best players at any position in the nation, and the Seminoles are loaded with size, speed, and talent. Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly will keep the Rebels in the game, but FSU is just the better team overall.

Oh, and Hugh Freeze will have to create his own funeral again to motivate his team after the loss.
