FSU vs. Texas State prediction and in-depth game preview. How will Everett Golson and the Seminoles handle the Bobcats to open the season?
The Everett Golson era officially gets underway when Florida State faces off against Texas State at home to open the 2015 season. There are a lot of unknowns with this Seminoles team, which the world will get its first peek at on Saturday. Below is the FSU vs. Texas State prediction and preview.

Life without Jameis Winston begins in Tallahassee as Florida State takes aim at its fourth ACC championship in a row. It’s been another turbulent offseason for the Seminoles who are working to remain the team to beat in the conference, despite the losses of so many central figures on offense. After knocking on the postseason door the past two seasons, Texas State wants to break it down this year for Dennis Franchione.
While FSU is still finding its way on offense, the Bobcats figure to have one of the Sun Belt’s most potent attacks in 2015. Texas State has a decent offensive front wall, and will once again achieve balance behind the passing of QB Tyler Jones and the consistent running of senior Robert Lowe.
As the Noles figure out the offense in September, the defense will carry a bigger load. Florida State has too much speed for Texas State, with LB Terrance Smith and CB Jalen Ramsey flying around the field. Ramsey headlines a very talented defensive backfield that will generate multiple turnovers on Saturday night.
Welcome to the Everett Golson era after fending off holdover Sean Maguire. With star RB Dalvin Cook likely a little rusty after spending much of the past few months sidestepping legal troubles, it’ll be on Golson to be the guy who has to step in and shine for Jameis. He has the skills, and he has the experience. Now he has to be the new main man and make the offense him.
The curtain finally gets pulled back on Florida State, which is somewhat of a mystery entering 2015. There are so many question marks, in the backfield and along both lines. The Noles will out talent the Bobcats here, but the stabilizing must continue before ACC play starts.
