    Why You Need To Care

After obliterating Alcorn State, 69-6, in the opener, Georgia Tech begins to gradually face tougher competition with this week’s visit from Tulane. The defending ACC Coastal champs travel to South Bend next week, so this is Paul Johnson’s last good chance to tinker before the stakes get much higher. The Green Wave flopped in its first ACC test, failing to show up in last Thursday’s 37-7 home loss to Duke.

    Why Tulane Will Win

Might Georgia Tech be looking ahead to Notre Dame? How can the Yellow Jackets not be? The opening statement clearly says otherwise, but the Green Wave does have potential on offense. Tanner Lee has a live arm with which he’ll be target a beatable Tech secondary. And the Sherman Badie-led backfield is deep and capable.

    Why Georgia Tech Will Win

The Green Wave defensive front was mauled last week by Duke. Expect more of the same from the Yellow Jackets, who appear to have found some answers in the backfield. QB Justin Thomas is the orchestrator, but new B-backs Marcus Marshall and Patrick Skov combined for 256 yards and five scores on just 20 carries. Tulane will be looking at the back of the Tech jerseys all afternoon.

    Player Who Matters

The offense is fine. With ND on the horizon, this is a week that Tech wants to focus on its defense. The defensive line is bursting with potential, particularly on the interior. DT Adam Gotsis is a sure-thing, and NT Jabari Hunt-Days could be one of the ACC’s breakout stars of 2015.

    What’s Going To Happen?

This matchup will get ugly … early. Tulane has little hope of slowing down the Georgia Tech triple-option, which is rebuilding on the fly around Marshall and Skov. And when it becomes obvious that Lee must throw in comeback mode, the all-senior Jacket secondary will quickly give the ball back to Thomas & Co.
