Southern has a fun passing attack and a strong enough offense to get things moving a bit. There might have been a few problems against Louisiana Tech to open the season – losing 62-15 – but the Jaguars hung 50 on the board in each of their next two games against Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State.
Georgia doesn’t need any more tuning up after blasting away on South Carolina in a 52-20 win for a 2-0 start in conference play and 3-0 overall, but now it’s all about getting through this week healthy before getting Alabama at home with a chance to – for all intents and purposes – knock the Crimson Tide out of the SEC title chase.
You don’t think Georgia might be a wee bit excited about playing Alabama, do you? There’s a chance to go on a tremendous run with a win over the Crimson Tide, but first, the Bulldogs have to deal with Austin Howard and a passing game that cranked up 395 yards last week against Jackson State and is averaging 276 yards per game. The Jaguars will keep the pressure on through the air. One problem though …
The Southern secondary has been awful so far. Yeah, the Jaguar offense went nuts last week, but Jackson State’s LaMontiez Ivy threw for 357 yards and three scores. Louisiana Tech quarterbacks combined to throw for 380 yards and five touchdowns in the opening weekend blowout. The Jaguar defense won’t get into the backfield, meaning it should be target practice once again for …
Greyson Lambert, who pitched a nearly perfect game last week against South Carolina completing 24-of-25 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. The goal this week is to get to the backups as soon as possible, but before that. Lambert needs to stay in the same groove, which won’t be a problem as long as Nick Chubb and the running game keep the focus off the passing attack – at least for a half.
It’s not exactly going to be the most focused of Georgia efforts, but the offense will roll at will after it wakes up in the second quarter.
Final Score: Georgia 45, Southern 13, Line: No Line, o/u: No Line
