Haason Reddick’s Strengths

Arguably the most athletic edge rusher in this draft class, Reddick has all the physical tools you want. He’s very explosive off the edge. He flies off the ball out of a two-point stance and provides quick backside pursuit. His burst off the line and bend around the arc consistently require double teams. You’ll think twice about having an empty set or releasing the tailbacks.

Reddick does a great job of getting skinny in order to knife through gaps. He’s quick and agile when performing stunts, and does a great job of flushing the pocket. He also does an excellent job of getting his hands up when unable to reach the quarterback before the ball is released.

He stays with the play and tracks the quarterback down if he steps up or rolls out. Play recognition is a plus, as Reddick has the awareness and quick feet to get out to the flats and drop into his zone.

He’ll make some big plays as a green dog, an impromptu blitzer, when the play breaks down.

Haason Reddick’s Weaknesses

There are many times when he’ll get washed down on a down block when lined up in a three-point stance. You’d like to see Reddick blow up the edge and force the running back inside more instead of letting the edge get set.

Inconsistent form produces more missed tackles than we should see from him. Reddick will settle for arm tackles too often instead of plugging his helmet into the ball carrier’s armpit and driving him to the ground.

He fails to provide a counter move on his pass rush and will get ridden down the pocket. Reddick needs to work on delivering combination moves when attacking the pocket. He’ll occasionally predetermine the pass-rush move he wants to make instead of reading and reacting to the offensive tackle.

His feet are so quick he’ll often rely too much on his first step or his ability to run around a guy. The hand fighting needs work.

Scheme Fits

Put him in a 3-4 scheme and tell him to go get the quarterback. That’s where teams will find the best results from him on Day 1. He’s a JACK linebacker, not a defensive end. He can put his hand in the dirt, but he’s more effective standing up off the edge. There are glimpses of Dante Fowler Jr. in Reddick’s film, especially when matched up one-on-one with offensive tackles on passing downs.

Reddick would be a fit for the Washington Redskins at No. 17 overall. Arizona, Kansas City, the New York Jets and Denver would all be great landing spots for Reddick, who has solidified himself as a first-round pick.
