Texas State hung half-a-hundred (plus six) on Ohio in Week 1, and then followed that up with an inspired three-point outing against Arkansas. So, with an over/under at 63, what do they do against Houston? I’m saying take the over. Houston reeled off 28 points in a hurry against Cincinnati in what was a pretty ugly game for the Cougars. This one will be in the books by halftime, with a late cover on the over.

Everyone is talking about Greg Ward Jr. and his shoulder. He’ll play, but he isn’t the biggest worry for Texas State. When I watched Ed Oliver in high school, I knew he’d be special at the next level. With the way he explodes off the ball, he reminds me of Aaron Donald. With Oliver blowing up the run and supplying an interior pass rush, the Cougars will wreak havoc on the Texas State offense. Houston wins with its eyes closed and one hand behind its back.

Texas State could not get anything going offensively against Arkansas, and the Bobcats will now face an opportunistic Cougars defense that has improved its overall talent level in recent years and is playing very well under coordinator Todd Orlando. The Bobcats have little chance to slow down the Houston offense, and their offensive struggles last week shouldn’t instill any confidence that they’ll be able to score many points themselves either.

Since I’m guessing the powers-to-be that run the Texas Longhorn football program are scared of scheduling Houston, this is the closest the Cougars will get to a chance to say they beat Texas. And they will kick the crap out of the Bobcats. Tom Herman for Governor!
